Schooling began in the parish in 1811 on the site of the former Infant School in St. Martin’s Church Street. This building is full of character, with a walled playground. However, it became redundant during 2003 upon the merger of the Infant and Junior Schools and is now the St. Martins Centre partly occupied by Kaplan, an organisation based around schooling of English for foreign students
St. Martin’s Junior School, sited at the top of Fowlers Hill, was built in 1952 and is spacious with large playing fields. In 2003 the two schools merged and thus became the Primary school serving the local community, and there have been close links between church and school for many years.

A PRAYER FOR OUR PARISH
Almighty God, you have made us members of Christ and of his Church in this parish. May we as a congregation reach upwards to your throne in worship and adoration: inwards to one another in understanding and fellowship; and outwards to the world in evangelism and social compassion. Make us like a city set on a hill whose light cannot be hidden, so that men and women may find Christ as the Light of the World, and his Church as the family of the redeemed, and eternal life as the gift of God, through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen. |
