Ben & Joanne’s Phillips’ wedding at St.Martin’s

Joanne had met Ben in the summer of 2013 when he was stationed at Tidworth being a Captain in the British Army and soon afterwards on Christmas Day he popped the question.

It wasn’t long before they moved to Salisbury and settled in the St. Martin’s Parish and being a church goer she came along to attend on a Sunday. She was very impressed with the beauty and historical richness of St. Martin’s and overcome by the welcome and friendliness of the congregation.

Ben attended the Sunday Eucharist services when he could and soon after they both requested to be married here. Their wedding day was a joyous occasion (apart from a hiccup with their driver who tried to take them to Christchurch) but they describe their wedding as ‘’magical’’ with their guests complimenting them on the church setting and wonderful music by Time Hone. The photographs show a beautiful story so visit the gallery to see them.

Sadly we have lost the couple due to a re-posting to Cardiff where Ben has been made Regimental Adjutant for the Royal Welsh Regiment. They will both miss St. Martin’s and extend their sincere gratitude to the Churchwardens, Tim Hone and all members of the congregation.

Flying visit from the new Bishop of Ebbsfleet

Following his Consecration at Westminster Abbey  in  September, the Right Reverend Jonathan Goodall, fulfilled his promise to the Churchwardens and visited St. Martin’s  and presided at the Sunday Eucharist on Sunday 20th October.

This was an  extraordinary  and most pleasant surprise which we all delighted in. Bishop Jonathan brought his wife, Sarah and son Thomas with him to make the visit truly family orientated.

The whole congregation got the chance to meet and speak to him after  the  service  over  coffee in the Centre then  he enjoyed a Parish lunch at the Wheatsheaf in Woodford, organised by the Social Committee.

St. Martin's Parish Church wins Award for re-ordered West Porch

On Thursday 10th January 2013 the Churchwardens, Mary Lilley and Robert Hayes, collected their  Award Certificate at the  Salisbury Civic Society's 2012 Conservation Awards ceremony at the Guildhall, Salisbury.

This was in recognition of outstanding work to an existing building in the Salisbury area with particular reference to the outstanding work by the main contactors  C.S.Gallagher's Ltd, and specialist blacksmith, Jack's Bush Forge under the management of Anthony Feltham-King of St.Anne's Gate Architects, St, Ann's gate, Salisbury.

The porch had suffered from theft of the roof lead in 2007 and subsequent painstaking deliberation and hardwork finally paid off in December 2011 when the work was finally finished and later in September 2012 the porch was dedicated and blessed by the new Bishop of Salisbury, The Right Reverend Nicholas Holtam (see following notice).

Robert Hayes thanked the SCS for this honour and made reference to the fact that the Church was in fact older than Salisbury itself having recorded incumbents as far back as 1091 , more than 100 years before work had even begun on the Cathedral in St.Mary's fields.

A PRAYER FOR OUR PARISH

Almighty God, you have made us members of Christ and of his Church in this parish. May we as a congregation reach upwards to your throne in worship and adoration: inwards to one another in understanding and fellowship; and outwards to the world in evangelism and social compassion. Make us like a city set on a hill whose light cannot be hidden, so that men and women may find Christ as the Light of the World, and his Church as the family of the redeemed, and eternal life as the gift of God, through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.
